Track Name: graveyeard
when the first rays of that sun crest the treeline at dawn, i’ll be making my way back home - while you were sleeping, lost in dreams, i was working, running my machines - well, it’s not much of a life - but it’s a hell of a living, it seems
Track Name: i am
i am that noble oak - and i am that mighty pine - i am that evening sky and i am the stars that shine - i am that twisted stream - and i am those fallen leaves - i’m the sunlight through your window and i am that summer breeze - with my wheel set to spin, and my song in the wind, i’ll be back again - i am those rolling plains - and i am those fields of grain - i am that barren wall and the picture in the frame - i am that endless road - and i am that will to roam - i’m the road that takes you away and the road that brings you home - with my wheel set to spin, and my song in the wind, i’ll be back again - though i tried to stick around - i couldn’t make it long - well i tried to be the singer, but i ended up the song
Track Name: high road
when you said you’re leaving, i said i’ve heard this one before - cause you’ve been bent on walking out since you first walked through my door - and if you’re waiting on my answer, you won’t like what you’ll find - take everything that is yours and leave behind what’s mine - i got so sick and tired of always begging you to stay - but you know this time around, it’s not going to work that way - cause i’ve been waiting on this moment - it seems like very long - a chance for you to break free and a chance for me to right what i’ve wronged - we’ve both been playing with fire, and you think i’m acting strange - you’ve given me my last scar, and now it’s time that you get burned for a change
Track Name: flock
well the rooster will crow, the sparrow may plead - and the blackbird will sing, though it doesn’t have the need - and i will hum the tune, cause i don’t know the words - as i sit in the wilderness, listening to the choir of birds - well the vultures will circle, the phoenix rise from from flames - and the raven will speak, and it sounds just like my name - some of them will call, come of them will sing - some will brave the winter and some of them will fly south till spring - and a murder of crows will sit on the lines - and the robins take wing and inhabit the pines - and they’ll all flock together and blacken the sky - till they all return home to live and to die
Track Name: country resume
i’ve never worked in a coal mine - never thumbed my way across a state line - never sat alone and cried into my beer - so how can i tell you what you want to hear? - i’ve never been in a bar fight - never shot a man just to watch him die - can’t say i’ve felt the devil drawing near - so how can i tell you what you want to hear? - but i’ve slept in my car - and i’ve closed down my fair share of bars - i’ve been laid off and let down, cheated on and pushed around - i’ve had my share of heartbreak, just not more than i could take - i never rode in a boxcar - never paid my rent by playing my guitar - never been the kind to live my life in fear - so how can i tell you what you want to hear? - now i’m down to my last dime - so i’ll take it home one piece at a time - i’ve been put down and put out - i’ve had my worries and my doubts - i’ve had my share of heartbreak, but that don’t always make for a good song
Track Name: 4 a.m.
it’s four in the morning - i should write this down, but i’ll keep on singing till the last words have come out - the last cup of coffee put the shakes in my hands, but i’ll keep on playing - try to make good on my self-imposed demands - so i’ll take a shot of that old kentucky bourbon - try to make the best of this cold ohio night - and i’ve failed enough, you’d think that i’d be learning - that good enough will have to be alright
